04/23/10 - Doctor Cops and the Black Art of Medicine -- by David A. Ruben, MD, MBA - The practice of medicine is a dangerous pursuit. Treatment can harm as well as help the patient; there are no guarantees. Historically, some societies punished?even executed?the caregiver for failure. Every time a physician intervenes, he or she invites the charge and courts the opportunity to potentially harm the patient. Even if things go well, nobody likes to admit they needed help. A good deed, may, in fact, be resented, even once the problem is resolved.

06/15/09 - Rep. Kirk wants tougher penalties for super pot -- CHICAGO - Congressman Mark Kirk and law enforcement officials say tougher drug penalties are needed to combat the high-potency marijuana that's hitting the streets. Kirk announced a bill Monday that targets drug dealers caught with the powerful pot called "kush." It would impose stiffer penalties than if dealers are caught with regular marijuana.

05/28/09 - Medical marijuana bill passes Illinois Senate and heads to the House -- by Kimberly Doerner -- A bill to legalize medical marijuana moves to the Illinois House after a narrow passage by the Senate Wednesday in a 30-28 vote. A House committee passed a similar medical marijuana measure in March. If the bill becomes law, Illinois would join 13 other states that have similar statutes in place.
